Chapter Seven: The Change Cycle - Change Cycle Introduction

I adopted as the Change Cycle the hexagram arrangement found on pages 730-1 of Wilhelm-Baynes.  The text accompanying the chart references pages 89-91 of the Eight Lectures on the I Ching by Hellmut Wilhelm (Bollingen Series LXII, Princeton University Press, 1960).  He attributes this natural system and hexagram arrangement to Shao Yung (1011-1077), and his review left us with the following conclusion:

"Shao Yung's schema has led to one of the most extraordinary episodes in the history of the human mind, and to this day it has never been satisfactorily cleared up."

This statement still may be true.  However, I believe Heaven to Earth, I Ching applies the Shao Yung arrangement to today's world taking the Book of Change a revolutionary step forward.  The Master Sheet and the block version shown below are his arrangement as is the Wilhelm-Baynes illustration.
